"The art of getting small

We’re probably all quite concerned about the on-going state of events, we’ve heard the the news updates about the Corona virus and are somehow managing to get through the shock of, one might say, a rather drastic change imposed upon our lives. As a matter of fact, at this very moment, I’m sitting here on my couch with a fire truck which has just pulled up and parked right outside my street-level window, it’s lights ablaze, but luckily, no sirens blaring at the moment. I don’t smell any smoke, so that’s one less worry. They’ve brought out the crane and are apparently trying to lower someone to the street.

Now somewhere along the lines, these last 6 or 7 days, we’ve faced the music and most likely have reluctantly admitted that we gotta go through with it, we gotta adhere to this new plan, this new routine, this new rhythm.

If we’re lucky, we’ve also had the time to realize that getting reasonably comfortable with this new way of doing things is much better than hating it and wishing it would stop. The later, requiring a much more serious load of work.

‘Getting small’ implies the willingness to simplify things and think at a different speed, worry less, and if you are able, get the most out of the moment and your thoughts. It helps if you turn off that flat rectangular glowing thing that’s facing you. Right, that part can be difficult! If your mind is tired of boxing with boredom and the TV always wins, the hardest part about many things, including the art of getting small, is taking the first step…..towards the closet, towards the unknown, where that paint brush, guitar, or writing pad you shoved to the back a long time ago, might be thrilled to feel your touch again.

Take care and enjoy the small moments"
