"Hello and welcome to RE News Update for March 16, 2020.

Martial Law

Here in Spain the authorities have deployed the military in thirteen provinces. They will primarily be used to disperse any large gatherings they may find in locations such as rail stations, parks etc. These military units will be operating in virus hotspots, which include, Madrid, Sevilla, Valencia, Zaragoza, León, and two of the Canary Islands.

Citizens of Spain have been hunkering down since yesterday when a state of alarm was enacted by the government in order to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. The hunker-down is expected to continue in Spain for at least the next two weeks.

As I myself am hunkered down in the Madrid neighborhood of Chamberí. I have yet to see any military units outside my home. However, I did see two beat cops this morning around 9am walking down my street, which is odd because in Madrid, or at least in my neighborhood, there really are no beat-cops.

Let’s go around the globe now on this Monday March 16.

Markets have taken a tumble again. The New York Stock exchange circuit breakers were triggered again at the opening bell this morning halting trading for 15 minutes. At the time of this report the Dow was down two thousand points.

The Spanish IBEX 35 had another disaster of a day dropping almost eight percent.

Puerto Rico has shut down all of its businesses with the exception of gas stations and those dealing in food, health or finance.

Mexico has shut down all football matches.

Germany has closed its borders with France, Switzerland, Austria, Luxembourg and Denmark. Poland and the Czech Republic had already closed their borders with Germany and for the moment German borders with the Netherlands and Belgium are unaffected.

The UK appears to be catching up in the coronavirus spread, an emergency declaration is expected there sometime this week.

New York City public schools are closed until at least April 20. That date is subject to change, meaning that the school closure could go on even longer. As of tomorrow March 17 all New York city bars and restaurants will be limited to take-out food and delivery only.

In New Jersey, the city of Hoboken will impose a 10pm curfew as of today.

Thanks for listening to RE News Update. Stay well, stay strong, hang in there and remember it’s just a stitch in time.

Take care and stayed tuned."
